Phina Oruche is a woman of many talents.
She was selected to go as a gymnast in the pre-Olympic qualifying team, something that through circumstances beyond her control she didn't get to complete. It did, however, make her determined to never let an opportunity pass her by again, she has held fast to that early promise.
She started her career in London and Paris, as a fashion model, after getting her start in magazines such as ID and The Face, then moved onto the world stage in New York where she worked extensively in American fashion magazines, and in advertising, where she represented The Gap for 5 seasons, until her desire to become an actor made her turn her back on her lucrative modelling career and take a chance on acting. She trained at the famed Actors Studio where she became a lifetime member, having been instructed by Martin Landau, Mark Rydell and Barbara Bain.
Her gamble paid off and she was soon to feature in a number of hit shows including NYPD BLUE, NIP/TUCK, CHARMED, SHE SPIES, DIAGNOSIS MURDER (as two different characters) and BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER.
However, at home in the UK it was her role as Liberty Baker in FOOTBALLERS WIVES that brought Phina to prominence, when she starred simultaneously as Heather Less on THE BILL and won a Screen Nation Award for FOOTBALLERS WIVES.
She is a hugely versatile performer, which she ably demonstrated when impersonating Lauryn Hill for ITV1's CELEBRITY STARS IN THEIR EYES.
Phina ran the 2006 London Flora marathon raising funds ands awareness for the ANTHONY NOLAN TRUST, but later braved the greater challenge of swimming with crocodiles in the Australian jungle in ITV1's I’M CELEBRITY GET ME OUT OF HERE.
A girl with passion and not afraid to state her opinion, which she uses to her advantage whilst working as a guest on THE WRIGHT STUFF for Channel 5, and her frequent appearances on TV AM for Irelands TV3.
More recently Phina has guest-starred in the US show THE UNIT, David Mamet's hit CBS drama and had the comedy HAPPY EVER AFTERS in theatres across the country to start off 2010, before landing the role of Gabby Sharpe in Channel 4's daily signature show, HOLLYOAKS.
A columnist and writer, as well as a mother to a beautiful 2-yr-old boy, she is a busy lady. Also a certified hatha yoga instructor, Phina is fit, funny and fearless!!!
